Under the Carpa
SAY Sí's ALAS Youth Theatre Company will be staging an original work about the Carpa Garcia, a Mexican American traveling circus that was based in San Antonio and presented traditional circus acts, music, comedy and dancing. The Garcia family toured from 1914 to 1947.
I'm one of two guest artists who are part of the cast. Never been referred to as guest artist before. I'll be playing the part of the elderly Rodolfo Garcia who was the comic character of Don Fito for the show. It's a challenging part for me because I'll be playing an 87 year-old wheel chair bound man. But it's also a part I can relate to very much. His art, clowning was his life as it is for me. It's what gives me the most satisfaction as an artist. Pammy has been helping me run lines all week. The show opens this weekend. I hope you can make it.
