Kids love toys!

When I wasn't suffering the effects from the annual assault to my nasal passages there was plenty to keep this snot-nosed lad busy.

There were quite a few Doc Ed shows this week. We're still fine tuning the latest show for kindergarteners and it's going well. Karston is a big hit with the kids. I've added a few props to the shows because the kids respond very well to visual aides, that is, props like a red water pump.

This week was also spent working on character studies for the picture book I'll be illustrating. They're in black and white right now but color studies will soon follow.

There's also a little prop work coming our way from the San Antonio Metropolitan for the production of the "Snow Queen" which opens in November. This show was staged several years ago so they still have all the sets and props they used. More than likely the bulk of the work will be making repairs on some of the props and set pieces as needed. There is the possibility of making a new set piece.

A couple of years ago I made a very large oven and a cage as well as Punch and Judy puppets for their production of Hansel and Gretel. 

I have a feeling it'll be a busy fall. That's good!

Below is a link to an article that was in today's paper on special makeup effects artist Lawrence Mercado. I met him back in 2003 when I started working at Ripley's Haunted Adventure where he was an actor. Now he has his own special makeup effects business: Notbot Fx, and it's going strong. Check out his website here. He's very talented, creative and dedicated, working hard to perfect his craft. He's also a pretty funny guy.

Doc at Cody Branch Library

Today was a fun day for good ol' Doc Edwards. He got to spend some quality time with pre-k kiddoes at the library talking all about the water from the Edwards Aquifer. Now you'd think that'd be a mighty tall order keeping the kids interested in a presentation about water... well, it could be. Fortunately for Doc, he's got that all figured out. He knows how to edu-tain the young'ns pretty good. That's not to say he doesn't work hard to do it. There's always more than a bit of sweat on his brow at the end of a show. But he wouldn't do it if he truly didn't love what he does.
