Stick a Fork in "It"....
Here's the latest of my "monster" illustrations. I've already started the next one and I'm pretty excited about it. If I'm lucky and I really put my nose to the grindstone I should have at least a dozen or so completed by summer's end. That's the goal at least. I'll post a better image on my Water Street Kid Studio blog soon.
Friday Roundup on a Saturday Morning
Last week I spent some time talking about the illustration process for a picture book with the students from Mrs. Bazaldua's 5th grade class at Woodridge Elementary School. Specifically, the book was the Milagro de Monterrey/Miracle of Monterrey published by Raining Popcorn Media. I also brought along various unrelated illustrations like the Hobbit ones I've been working on to show what I do when left to my own devices. Mrs. Bazaldua and I will be collaborating on her next picture book this summer, which I am very excited about.
I also sent a voice over sample for a possible gig which I didn't get. Bummer. I did make me realize I need to put together an audio sample of all the voices I can do for future work in the field. I haven't really explored that side of acting as much as I should have these last twenty years but it's never too late!

Lego My Shelob
My son and I thought it might be a good idea to start off summer vacation with a project. We decided to put together the Lego Shelob he got for his birthday. Once Shelob is fully assembled she can go toe-to-toe Samwise Gamgee while he keeps her away from Frodo, two figures that were included with the kit. Very cool! It wouldn't have been quite as cool minus those two brave and most "admirable-est" of hobbits. And of course, we can't forget poor Gollum to complete the ensemble.
Here a before and after shots.
Not too shabby.

Rest in Peace Tony Blanco
I just found out that Tony Blanco passed away. For those not in the clown and magic circles you may not be familiar with his name but you may have seen his book at the bookstore. If you were aspiring clown or variety arts performer you probably had a copy of "Creative Clowning" like I did. When I started clowning it was a valuable addition to my library. I read that book cover to cover.
It would be a shame if knowledge of his untimely passing didn't go beyond the confines of the entertainment world. So, below I've provided a link to his website and embedded video of Mr. Blanco at work.
