Saturday Night Doodles
Tonight on "Lost in Space" the Robinson family got a visit from a Valkyrie and Thor. On "Star Trek", the crew of the starship Enterprise encountered a planet that paralleled Earth's Cold War history. Pretty neat. Oh, and on Batman, we got to see the first appearance of Yvonne Craig as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, who duked it out with the Penguin in one episode and then the Riddler in another. Not bad for a "newbie". It ended with a cliffhanger as Commissioner Gordon is hypnotized by Lorelei "the Siren" played by non other than Joan Collins.
We concluded our evening's entertainment with Svengoolie which featured the comedy "The Invisible Woman" released in 1940. It has a great cast including the great John Barrymore, Margaret Hamilton (Wicked Witch of the West) and Shemp Howard (The Three Stooges). Written by Robert Lees and Fred Rinaldo, known for scripting many comedies including several for Abbot and Costello movies, the film is a very enjoyable comedy with great verbal and physical comedy.
In one scene comic actor Charlie Ruggles, who plays George the butler, walks up a ladder to the very top and does one of the most amazing pratfalls I've ever seen. They did a very good cut as they switched to a stuntman who I hope was able to walk away after his stunt.
It's a great way to spend a Saturday night here at Rancho Ramirez but now it's late and time to call it a night. Hasta manana!
